This week, Laurence School took a journey to Italy with the Esser and Nortman families during one of our Global Perspectives presentations. We had the pleasure of learning about Italian culture, history, food, and sports. The students learned about the creation of pizza as we know it today, and how the first official one was the "Pizza Margherita" in 1889 in honor of Queen Margherita of Savoy and it was garnished with tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil, to represent the national colors of Italy as on the Italian flag. We also learned that there are approximately 350 different types of pasta out there!
Students also enjoyed learning about the Colosseum and the Lost City of Pompeii. But what really captivated their attention was learning about the Italian national soccer team, Azzurri, for their blue jerseys, and how many world cup titles they have won. They then got to enjoy some authentic Italian ices as a delicious treat.
Grazie mille to the Esser and Nortman families for a fantastic presentation!
