Beat the Summer Screen-Time Slide
Beat the Summer Screen-Time Slide

By, Laurie Wolke, Head of School

As summer approaches and the structure of our days changes and lightens, it is easy for children to slip into a heavy summer screen time routine. Even technology that helps children learn and allows them to create can be overused when school day activities cease, and there are extra hours to relax and play.

So as you get ready for summer, please consider keeping a structured technology usage plan in place for your children. Be sure to use the extra time together this summer to focus on activities that allow you and your children to connect face-to-face, plan in-person playdates, enjoy outdoor activities, and engage in family community service projects. Summer is also a wonderful time to read books! You could even help your child organize a book club to add structure and social engagement to his or her summer reading time. (Check out our summer reading suggestions here.)

For suggestions on how to manage your child’s technology use this summer, read Common Sense Media’s article, “Start Your Summer Screen-Time Rules Now!”
