Lower School Director
Maggie Muir

Dr. Maggie Muir became Laurence’s Lower School Director in 2026 after spending more than a decade at Laurence in the upper and lower divisions as a lead teacher and mentor. She has spent fifteen years in education and brings both heart and intellect to her work as an educator, always asking how we can better support children and the adults who teach them.
Dr. Muir has organized professional development for teachers, co-developed a faculty mentoring program, served on the Leadership Committee for our California Independent School (CAIS) accreditation, and contributed to our Artificial Intelligence Committee, where she researches and reviews programs for use in the classroom. Her work on the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee has included developing a scope and sequence rooted in spheres of identity and leading faculty workshops that strengthened reflection, dialogue, and belonging. As a certified children’s yoga instructor she’s led after school classes with our younger grades. In addition, she has served as faculty advisor for the Lightning Striker student newspaper and Laurence’s Published Poets Program.
Dr. Muir holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership and a master’s degree in Educational Psychology. She believes that a strong curriculum is not simply about content, but about clarity, coherence, and connection.
In her free time, Dr. Muir enjoys spending time with her husband, Drew, and their son, Monty. They love exploring Los Angeles together, especially hiking and visiting libraries. Dr. Muir also enjoys visiting local farmers markets and staying active through pilates and yoga.
