Director of Performing Arts
Lauren Bruns

Lauren Bruns has served as Laurence School's Director of Performing Arts since 2023, following her time as Lead Music Teacher beginning in 2015. She oversees the school's music, dance, and drama programs, after school performing arts enrichment, and the Upper and Lower Division Musical Theater productions. Under her leadership, the program has grown significantly, creating an environment where every student has the opportunity to perform, build confidence, and experience the joy of the arts.
Before joining Laurence, Ms. Bruns founded Sessions Songwriting for Kids in 2009, where she developed a unique songwriting curriculum that teaches voice, guitar, piano, and drums through the lens of a songwriter. She grew the program into a thriving business with a team of instructors dedicated to helping young musicians discover their creativity and confidence.
Ms. Bruns' passion for music began in her hometown of New Orleans, where she grew up in a musically rich household singing and playing piano and guitar. She later continued her musical journey in Austin, Texas, as a singer-songwriter before moving to Los Angeles, where she signed an EP deal with Epic Records.
She holds a BFA in Theatre and Dance from the University of Texas at Austin and completed her Orff Schulwerk certification at Southern Methodist University. This child-centered approach to music education combines singing, movement, drama, and speech to create an active, play-based learning experience.
Ms. Bruns lives with her husband, Blake, their children, Wyatt ('25) and Bailey ('29), and their dog, Rex. Outside of Laurence, she enjoys reading everything from historical fiction to quantum physics, playing tennis and pickleball, and spending time with her family during their legendary game nights.
