Dear Kindergarten Families,
We are thrilled to share with you that we will be bringing our Kindergarten students back to campus for staggered in-person learning beginning October 20th. We are over the moon that we will finally be able to welcome your little ones into their physical classrooms!
This past Friday, we received support from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH) to bring our Kindergarten students to campus in accordance with the most recent State rules, which allow for a limited number of students with the highest needs to return to campus for specialized support and services that cannot be met through distance learning. While we look forward to when we can bring all of our students back to campus, the LADPH has supported the return of only our Kindergarten students at this time, as they are most in need of in-person instruction for their academic learning, as well as their social and emotional development.
Kindergarten students will have the opportunity to be on campus from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., two days a week. Learning Families will be divided in half, to comply with current State and County rules, and will be assigned to either a Tuesday-Wednesday or Thursday-Friday schedule. (The rules require that no more than 10% of our student population be on campus at any given time.) On the days when your child is not on campus, they will continue to engage in virtual learning. We will continue to explore options for us to bring students back to school full time (in Kindergarten and other grades), and we will keep you updated on our progress. Please note that at this time, we will not be able to provide bus service to and from campus.
Our Administration and Kindergarten teachers are moving full speed ahead planning for the safe return of your children to our campus. We will do so in accordance with all LADPH and State rules and requirements, as well as in accordance with the health and safety protocols set forth in our Back to School Plan: 2020-21 (please note this plan is continually updated). We will also continue to implement advice from our Medical Task Force.
We understand that every family must do what is best for them, and we respect everyone's different needs and levels of comfort during this time. We will do our best to accommodate the needs of our families to ensure that all of our Kindergarten students receive a true Laurence educational experience. Given that several months have passed since our last parent survey and your circumstances may have changed, we would like to ask you to confirm whether you plan to have your Kindergarten child(ren) return to campus for in-person learning. Please click here to confirm your choice by October 10th. (Please note this form only needs to be filled out by one parent per child.)
In order to ensure that our children, our families, and our faculty and staff are as safe as possible when our Kindergarten students return to campus, we are asking you to please self-quarantine for 14 days prior to your child's return to campus.
We look forward to sharing more details with you in the coming weeks! Additionally, we invite you to join us on Zoom for a Kindergarten Parent Coffee on October 8th at 4:00 pm, which will focus on successfully transitioning our Kindergarten students on campus, and give you an opportunity to ask questions.
We are incredibly grateful for your support and flexibility as we continue to pivot to navigate the evolving circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. The health, safety, emotional wellbeing, and learning needs of your children remain our highest priority, and we cannot wait to warmly welcome them to Laurence School's campus in the very near future!
