Dear Laurence Families,
We hope that you are well, and we look forward to seeing many of you at this Friday's Halloween Boo Thru car parade. We are loving having our kindergarteners on campus a few times a week for in-person learning, and seeing our 3rd-6th graders for optional sports conditioning after school! We have more exciting news... we are thrilled to share with you that the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) and California Public Health Department (CPHD) have approved Laurence's waiver application for kindergarten-2nd grade in-person instruction! We are over the moon that we will finally be able to bring more of our students back into their physical classrooms! This favorable decision is based on our ability to fully adhere to the extensive health and safety guidelines and policies set forth by both our county and state. For detailed information on our school re-opening protocols, please see our Back-to-School Plan 2020-21.
Starting the week of November 9th, K-2 students will come back to campus 5 full days each week. We will be in touch with K-2 families by the end of this week with details regarding arrival and departure, carpool procedures, and calendar/schedule changes. Please note that at this time, we will not be able to provide bus service to and from campus.
Our Administration and teachers are moving full speed ahead with finalizing our details for the safe return of our students to our campus. As we prepare for the return of K-2, we also continue to look for additional ways to provide more on-campus time for our older students. LACDPH recently changed the rules that allow for a limited number of students with the highest needs to return to campus for specialized support and services that cannot be met through distance learning. Please note that this restricted number of students allowed under this exception is based on our 3rd-6th grade population, which means that we cannot bring back as many total students as some larger schools (particularly K-12 schools).
In order to ensure that our children, our families, and our faculty and staff are as safe as possible when our students return to campus, we are asking you to take the necessary precautions to keep our community healthy (masks, hand-washing, physical distancing, etc), so that we can continue to keep our campus open. We will continue regular COVID testing of our faculty and staff, and encourage our students/families to test prior to returning to campus as well.
We look forward to sharing more details with you via email, and welcome our K-2nd grade parents to join us for a Parent Information Coffee via Zoom on November 5th at 5:30 pm, which will focus on successfully transitioning our students back to campus, and give you an opportunity to ask questions.
We are incredibly grateful for your support and flexibility as we continue to pivot to navigate the evolving circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic. The health, safety, emotional wellbeing, and learning needs of your children remain our highest priority, and we cannot wait to warmly welcome them to Laurence School's campus in the very near future!
