Dear Laurence Families,
Our lives have changed dramatically over the past two weeks, and I am consistently inspired by the response from our school community. While this is certainly not the spring break any of us had envisioned for ourselves, I am truly grateful for the strength and cohesiveness of this special Laurence family.
As I mentioned in my previous communication, we will continue with our distance learning program when we return from Spring Break on April 13th. As the news and directives surrounding COVID-19 are constantly evolving, we have not yet made a decision about whether we will return to in-person learning before the end of the school year. We will proceed with our remote learning model and I will continue to communicate our plans for the rest of the school year as decisions are made. We are engaging in long-range planning, reassessing and looking at the possibility of postponing (rather than cancelling) various upcoming school events.
Our faculty will be taking our planned Spring Break from March 27-April 12, and out of respect for them, I would like to ask that you hold off on sending non-essential questions until we resume school. This will give our teachers much-needed time to recharge and prepare for the continuation of learning with your students, and also give them an opportunity to connect with their own families. The admin team will be here and available to speak with you at any time throughout the break. We will also be posting additional resources and suggestions for optional activities for your children during this break from their school routine.
As we plan for this longer period of distance learning, we are continually reflecting and refining this process. We will be adjusting the timing and expectations when we return from Spring Break, with additional time for connection. We are also being mindful of the amount of screen time required of students, on a developmentally-appropriate level. This is a learning experience for us all, and we welcome your feedback and suggestions. You will receive more information regarding the revised schedule and expectations from your child's division director.
Never before has the home-school partnership been more important, and we are here to support you. I was delighted to see so many of your beautiful faces yesterday during our Zoom call with Dr. K and the admin team! For those who participated, I hope you found our time together to be productive. These are uncharted waters for us all, and we will be providing more opportunities to come together virtually and support one another. In the near future, we will be planning grade-level "coffees" for you to come together with your fellow parents to discuss and support one another.
Our Laurence community is one of connection and togetherness, and it is important that we stay connected even while we are physically apart. Tomorrow morning, you will be emailed a link to a modified virtual Red, White, Blue, and Green assembly, with some of our favorite Friday traditions to kick off Spring Break. I hope that you will join us!
I miss you all dearly, and I look forward to a time when we can all gather together again. My virtual door is always open to you, and I am just a phone call or an email away. Please don't hesitate to reach out- I am here for you!
