Welcome to Laurence!
"Education must reflect the world our children will inherit. We’re not just teaching facts; we’re nurturing minds that can adapt, innovate, and develop empathy." - Laurie Wolke, Head of School
Nestled on a picturesque five-acre campus in the heart of Valley Glen, Laurence School has inspired young minds since 1953. Founded by visionary educators Marvin and Lynn Jacobson, our school is built on the transformative philosophy of educating the “Total Child.” This approach blends academic excellence with character education and social-emotional growth, creating an environment where students thrive intellectually and personally.
As Head of the School, I am honored to carry forward the tradition and mission of our founders while infusing it with modern strategies and forward-thinking practices. We offer a challenging, integrated academic curriculum paired with diverse enrichment, and athletic opportunities at Laurence. These experiences inspire curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of learning, shaping future leaders who advocate for a kinder, more sustainable world.
Learning at Laurence extends far beyond the classroom. From their first day in kindergarten, our students are immersed in a curriculum that pairs academic rigor with creative exploration and 21st-century skills. Programs like STEAM, public speaking, performing and visual arts, and Thinking by Design are intended to build skills that grow and evolve throughout the grades. We want to ensure our students are competent and confident as they transition to select middle schools across Los Angeles. However, our overarching goal remains to “Represent the L and Keep Kind in Mind.”
We invite you to explore our website and visit our campus to experience the energy and vitality that make Laurence a second home for our students and families—a true learning oasis rich with hope and optimism.
