Physical Education Curriculum

The physical education program provides an outlet for fitness, sportsmanship and a love of athletics. The developmental program builds upwards from simple locomotion and coordination to lead up activities for games, to actual group games and ultimately to team sports with other independent schools.

A premium is placed upon allowing children to participate equally in order to promote good character and a positive environment toward physical activity. These goals are embodied in the annual Olympic Day in which students participate in a variety of individual and group events and receive recognition for effort, sportsmanship and participation.

To enhance the safety and personalized nature of the program, instructors teach one grade level of students at a time. Laurence School participates in the Presidential Fitness program. These activities are designed to develop strength, endurance, flexibility and agility and to teach children the importance of staying physically active and nutritionally fit.

Excellent facilities complement the program. Laurence School has a new 9,600 square foot indoor gym with basketball and volleyball courts, a spacious outdoor athletic field and a playground with a sports court surface.

Interscholastic Sports

We are pleased to announce that Laurence School is a member of the San Fernando Valley Private School League. Laurence Lightning team members participate in basketball, flag football, soccer and volleyball! We look forward to launching another successful year of league sports.

The teams play such sports as basketball, volleyball, soccer, flag football and track and field. Our intermural sports program fosters sportsmanship, teamwork and an appreciation for athletics. Our new state-of-the-art athletic facilities include a 9,600 square foot gymnasium and an expansive grassy field. A special banquet is held each year to present team members with awards for leadership, effort and sportsmanship.
