GLOBAL EDUCATION
K-6th Grade

The school’s commitment to humanistic education, i.e. understanding, caring, and concern for others, is demonstrated in the school-wide innovative program, Global Education – Celebrating Brotherhood in the Wonderful World of Caring. Each classroom, kindergarten–6th grade, adopts a sister country for the school year. During this time, the students are engaged in activities which help them develop an appreciation for the interdependence of people and understanding of other cultures, and traditions. It also provides the basis for comparison of people in other lands with our own customs and lifestyle. Students have studied such sister countries as Mexico, Italy, France, China, Japan, and England, as well as a variety of African nations.

In order to make this study meaningful, the curriculum emphasizes communication with students of other countries through the Internet and the sharing of art, music, and literature. It is through the music, song, dance, and drama of a sister country, as well as our own country, that our students experience an understanding and appreciation of the importance of brotherhood throughout the globe.
