Community Service Curriculum
K - 6

Community service is an important aspect of Laurence School’s acclaimed Character Education program. The Community Service Program continues to expand its outreach through grade level and school-wide service learning experiences that help reinforce the importance of caring and giving to others. Some of our successful activities raised funds for those in need while others had our students, through acts of kindness and community outreach, provide assistance in a more personal way.

Each grade level has a special community service project. These activities transform our students into proactive democratic citizens who experience the value in reaching out to those in need and in making a positive difference in the lives of others. Upper grade students participate in a variety of individual community service projects through the "Power of One" program.

Some examples of grade level and school-wide community service projects include:

School-Wide: Weekly Donations to Interfaith Food Pantry. Heal the Bay. Food for the Needy. Recycle old print cartridges and cell phones. Cook for the homeless after school class.

Kindergarten:Toy Drive for Lowman School; Adopt a Manatee. Reading is Giving Scholastic Book donation.

1st Grade: Visit to the Fire Station. Treak or Treat with UNICEF.

2nd Grade: Visit to Jewish Home for the Aging, where they will perform Brotherhood songs, and write letters to their "Grandpals".

3rd Grade: Donate books to the Head Start program. Buddy program with students in Head Start.
