PHYSICAL EDUCATION K-6th Grade ~ Daily

The physical education program provides an organized curriculum designed to foster fitness, sportsmanship, skill building, and knowledge of athletics and games. The developmental program builds upwards from simple locomotion and coordination skills to game activities, group games, and ultimately interscholastic team sports with other independent schools.

A premium is placed upon allowing all children to participate in order to promote good character and a positive, respectful environment that highlights collaboration and teamwork. These goals are embodied in the annual Olympic Day in which students enjoy a variety of individual and group events and receive recognition for effort, sportsmanship, and participation.

To enhance safety and to encourage a consistent program, PE classes are taught by experienced coaches on a daily basis. Excellent facilities complement the program. Laurence School has a state-of-the-art 10,000 square foot indoor gym with basketball and volleyball courts, a spacious outdoor athletic field, and a colorful playground with a sports court surface. INTERSCHOLASTIC SPORTS
4th-6th Grade

The Laurence Lightning team invites 4th – 6th grade students to participate in an interscholastic sports league with other independent schools. Boys teams play basketball, soccer, and flag football. Girls teams participate in basketball, soccer, and volleyball. Our 4th- 6th grade students participate in a spring Track & Field Meet with other independent schools. Our interscholastic sports program fosters sportsmanship, teamwork, and appreciation for athletics. A special Sports Banquet is held each year to present teams and its members with awards for leadership, effort, and sportsmanship.
