Director of Grades 3-6 & STEAM

Eric Hogenson

A Montana native and the son of two lifelong educators, Eric brings more than 15 years of school leadership experience to Laurence School. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Science from Dartmouth College and a Masters in Education Leadership from California Lutheran University.

Prior to joining Laurence's Administrative Team, Eric was Director of Summer Programs, Science Department Chair, and Physics instructor at Brentwood School. Throughout his career, he has taught science and math to students in all grades from Kindergarten through 12th grade. Whether teaching the premise of a hypothesis to Kindergartners, navigating the intricacies of probability with 7th graders, building musical instruments with 12th graders, or teaching spoken English to adults in the Marshall Islands, Eric embodies a true commitment to hands-on, experiential learning.

While honing his pedagogy as a classroom teacher, Eric developed a passion for supporting teachers and helping to integrate STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) into the curriculum. He firmly believes that STEAM activities promote critical thinking, inspire authentic problem-solving, and lead to cross-curricular connections that make learning relevant and fun. His students admire his overwhelming enthusiasm for whatever he is teaching, and his colleagues comment that his greatest gift is bringing out the joy for learning in others.

In his personal life, Eric enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and two sons, playing music with his friends, and experimenting in his own home laboratory—the kitchen.
